Football Academy: The dream of professional football

On the last match day of the ÖFB youth league before the winter break, the red and gold talent factory remained unbeaten with all selections for the first time since round three. The U15s delivered a dominant performance against SV Ried, but couldn’t get past a 1-1 draw. It was the fourth draw with a win, which means tenth place in the table.

“Many players still lack a bit of maturity. They are not yet as quick to act as last year’s vintage was. That’s a big difference between U16 and U15 this year. That is perhaps the reason why the U15 was successful last year with fourth place in the end. We’re not that far yet,” summarized U15 coach Christoph Morgenbesser.

In order to make it easier for the youngest year to switch to the academy level, there will be even closer cooperation with the BFV in the future. Soon the U14 and U13 selections of the state training centers will also train in the academy.

A personal conclusion for U16

The U16 selection is in tenth place in the table and is therefore below expectations. Yesterday, however, the team ensured a conciliatory end of the year with a 4-0 win. “We played the first three or four games really well, but then unfortunately had to put up with a few injuries. In Burgenland it’s just that we don’t have the breadth to play against Rapid or Austria – if the wrong players are injured – can also get the points. But ultimately this is a highly talented class with really good players, where I can say that one or the other can make it very far, “said U16 coach Philipp Pürzl.

The U18s also have a lot of potential and are seventh after a 2-0 win. “We’re slipping into secure midfield, so you can be happy with that. But it’s primarily about the development of the players, and that’s where we can clearly see the development and it’s going in a good direction,” said U18 coach Christoph Witamwas.

Football academy needs sponsoring association

This will also be necessary for many players. After the end of SV Mattersburg, the logical reservoir in professional football is missing. It is therefore becoming increasingly important to play one’s game in the U18s. “Especially last year you have to keep your options open and look for clubs to switch to,” says U18 player Nedim Muratcehajic.

That this is possible is something that the younger players are constantly shown by the older generations. At the end of the academy there is always a change to a Bundesliga club. For the approximately 90 young people from Burgenland in the football academy, the dream of professional football lives on. But sooner or later it will probably need a supporting association.
