Radja Nainggolan (34) is no longer an Antwerp player. The contract of the former Red Devil has been dissolved by mutual agreement. Ex-club Cagliari and the MLS beckon.

Anyone who wants to attract Radja Nainggolan no longer has to pass on the Bosuil. Both parties have terminated their contract by mutual agreement. Nainggolan was stuck at Antwerp for another six months, but had no future there. The club had banned him to the B-squad after several extra-sports antics. He remains stuck at 55 games and six goals for the red and white.

It all looked so beautiful when Nainggolan signed a two-year agreement with Antwerp a year and a half ago. The midfielder was the prestige transfer from Paul Gheysens and also received amazing financial conditions by Belgian standards. Only the sporty return was not forthcoming: only too rarely could Nainggolan be a great added value for the number one.

Nainggolan was more often noticed with non-sporting antics. Less than ten days after his performance, the star footballer was fined for driving too fast and under the influence on the Rijnkaai, after which his driver’s license was effectively withdrawn for four months. And when part of the stadium roof gave way in one of the many autumn storms, Nainggolan made itself heard again. “I have to say that he (Paul Gheysens, ed.) has put up a ‘good’ roof”, the midfielder joked in a video that had to remain within the dressing room. A naive thought.

Nainggolan was also regularly on the front pages this season, but not because of fantastic performances as a footballer, unfortunately. First there was driving without a driver’s license, after which he ended up in jail for a while. Then the vape incident on Sclessin. The club then banned Nainggolan to the B-squad for an indefinite period of time, but now the marriage is over.

Now to wait and see where Nainggolan will end up. His name has been on the table in recent weeks both at his ex-club Cagliari, which wants to return to Serie A, and at Inter Miami, the American club owned by David Beckham. Now that he is free, he can shift up a gear in his search for a new employer.
