Discovering talents from the American G-League

The recent signing by RJ Nembhard from Reggio Emilia rekindles interest in the G-League, a forge of interesting players who, faced with an adequate offer, are willing to postpone their often too ambitious dream of finding space in the NBA. As already done digging into the underground of European basketball let’s go and see what interesting the American development league can offer with a hypothetical quintet and two bonus options

Marcus Zegarowski (P – 1998 – Windy City Bulls – 3.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists) After the 2way contract with Brooklyn ended, he found himself playing for the Chicago development team. Those who want an old-fashioned playmaker who thinks of putting his teammates in a position to score baskets can be very appealing to him; leadership and a long shot that can hurt (42% in the three-year period at Creighton) but with less than excellent athleticism and physicality

Tyler Hall (G/A – 1997 – Texas Legends – 13.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists) An elite shooter who is in his fourth year in the G-League, it’s time to see him on this side of the Atlantic where the combination of physique and shot could make it a first-tier item. He doesn’t have many other skills to highlight but the ability to move off the ball and 44% from beyond the arc on over 8 attempts in the game are a good calling card

Manny Camper (A – 1999 – Gran Rapids Gold – 4.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists) All-rounder who can come in handy on any occasion, not a great striker but the glue guy that many coaches like: good defender, always ready to help rebound and good at occupying spaces in the offensive phase. Sore point, he has lost faith in shooting from beyond the arc so much so that now he tries it sporadically and without any luck (0/8 in the season)

Matthew Hurt (W/C – 2000 – Memphis Hustle – 12.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1 block) Back from a serious injury that caused him to lose a lot of consideration in the NBA world, the former student of coach K has potential that could guarantee him in Europe important squares. Educated hand, wide shooting range and superfine basketball intelligence; he’s not a great rebounding presence but he compensates with his physique and can repay the trust with his class in the offensive phase

Nate Roberts (C – 1999 – Wisconsin Herd – 5.3 points, 7 rebounds) If you need a gladiator under the knife here is the right profile, rather limited in the offensive phase where he can only hurt near the basket but in defense and rebounding his presence is tangible and discourages opponents from venturing too serenely into the painted area. Defect not to be underestimated, the management of fouls is not always optimal given its vehemence

For those who have the opportunity to invest a few dollars more, there is the option of JALEN CRUTCHER who has everything to become a top tier player in the Old Continent or the project hey hey a 211 cm with potential to be discovered, like many other players you can find on Italian Basketball Scouting
