Did World War really put football on hold? – More sport

Every year in December it starts again: A photo is making the rounds in social and traditional media that is supposed to show German and British soldiers playing football on Christmas Day, December 25, 1914. A ceasefire in the middle of the First World War and a feel-good story that people like to read in difficult times in terms of global politics, that is supposed to emphasize the belief in the good in people and that keeps going viral: Germans on the one hand, British on the other others. A few hours ago they were trying to kill each other, now they’re kicking a ball because they don’t really have any grudges against each other and were only sent to war by the authorities.
