DFB relies on Kahn, Sammer and Rummenigge for EM 2024

Dhe head of the German Football Association (DFB) appointed a prominent panel of experts after the national team’s World Cup debacle and the departure of managing director Oliver Bierhoff. The advisory group, which includes Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Matthias Sammer, Oliver Mintzlaff, Oliver Kahn and Rudi Völler, is intended to support the association in overcoming the crisis. Neuendorf announced this on Tuesday in Frankfurt am Main.

The committee should ensure that the DFB and the national team around national coach Hansi Flick get out of the low with a view to the EM 2024 in Germany. In the past, the DFB had set up similar expert panels after sporting failures or resignations from coaches.

The search for a Bierhoff successor is also on the agenda. The DFB parted ways with Bierhoff after 18 years as a result of the repeated failure of the national team in the World Cup preliminary round. Flick, on the other hand, remains in office. The coach should do better at the home European Championship than in Qatar.

An internal working group is also to deal with the future structure of the association. The internal group of advisors includes EM OC boss Philipp Lahm, DFB general secretary Heike Ullrich and the chairman of the supervisory board of DFB GmbH und Co. KG, Alexander Wehrle.

According to Neuendorf, both working groups should meet for the first time before Christmas and then start their work at the beginning of next year. “We now need to join forces and join forces to make the EM 2024 a success,” said the DFB President.
