DFB crisis summit: national coach Hansi Flick and the players felt left alone! | Sports

The eagerly awaited DFB crisis summit…

At 5:01 p.m., Flick drove past the waiting TV teams and reporters without comment. A statement was only made at 6:19 p.m. in a press statement. With the message: Flick will continue until the 2024 home European Championship.

BILD knows: This is how the crisis summit really went!

Interviews after the meeting had not been planned from the start. In a conference room on the first floor, Neuendorf, Watzke and Flick worked through the issues that had accumulated and sometimes caused misunderstandings.

Everyone involved went into the conversation with the conviction that the national coach should continue to be called Flick at the European Championships.

The focus was on the sporting analysis of the WM-Aus in the preliminary round by Flick. As expected, the national coach once again referred to the many chances and shots his team had created in the three games against Japan (1:2), Spain (1:1) and Costa Rica (4:2) (more than any other team in the group stage). But six days after leaving, Flick also admitted to mistakes. He emphasized that national coach again in the statement.

Flick: “We missed a great opportunity there. We will learn our lessons from this.”

There was no talk about specific players, nor about the possible resignations of Ilkay Gündogan (32) or Thomas Muller (33).

Riddles about his Bayern past THAT was always Flick’s biggest problem!

National team director Oliver Bierhoff (54), who made the much-criticized choice of the secluded team quarters, was no longer there after his resignation to justify this decision. Flick still sees no reason for the departure.

Omissions were also acknowledged on the DFB side. Another important point that was discussed at the crisis summit: the poor crisis management around the binding Zoff.

Flick and the team felt left alone by the DFB leadership when discussing wearing the “One Love Bandage”. The team saw the decision whether captain Manuel Neuer (36) received a yellow card and the national team should risk further sanctions, passed on to them by the DFB President.

Even before the meeting, Flick’s statements on the DFB website about the resignation of national team director Bierhoff caused irritation. Flick had let it be known that he and his coaching team found it difficult to imagine “how the gap created by Oliver’s departure could be closed professionally and personally.” This choice of words had fueled speculation about Flick’s thoughts of resigning, since he had previously also ended three jobs early.

The circumstances of Bierhoff’s farewell were apparently wrong for Flick. His impression is said to have been that his confidant had been pressured into resigning – hence the provocative formulations in Flick’s statement. This misunderstanding has been cleared up. Because it was Bierhoff’s decision to draw a line so quickly.

Drastic words live on TV This Ronaldo photo is just awful

At the meeting, everyone involved agreed that there was no time pressure when it came to the Bierhoff successor.

With Hertha’s sports director Fredi Bobic (51) there is already a candidate. Bobic is starting his long-planned vacation in the USA today. He still has a contract with Berlin until 2024 (with an option until 2025) and also cost the club 2.5 million euros to Eintracht Frankfurt. Therefore, negotiations with Hertha would also be necessary.

The trio Neuendorf, Watzke, and Flick parted in agreement that in further exchanges attention would be paid to what could be done better in the future and what should be paid more attention to.
