The last Grand Prix Circuit of the year started this weekend, where several Danish national team players were on the program. The final day offered both reunions with victory and bitter defeats.

The fourth edition of this season’s Grand Prix Circuit had its address in Lillerød, where Lillerød Badminton Club hosted the tournament.

Among the participating players were national team players Line Kjærsfeldt in women’s singles and Mikkel Mikkelsen/Rike Søby Hansen in mixed doubles. Lasse Mølhede also participated in the tournament, but without his regular partner, Jeppe Bay.

The first final match was between Mikkelsen/Søby and Tobias Holst-Christensen/Isabella Nielsen. Here, the former showed why they were first seeded for the tournament. Mikkelsen/Søby wins in three sets with 21-11, 19-21, 21-9.

Thus, the mixed doubles pair takes home their second Grand Prix Circuit victory. They got their first tournament win in Skovshoved in October.

In the women’s singles, Line Kjærsfeldt was superb as she beat Frederikke Lund 21-11, 21-12 in two sets. It will also be Kjærsfeldt’s second GPC triumph, as she, like Mikkelsen/Søby, won the tournament in Skovshoved.

Rasmus Messerschmidt had to leave the final without a win for the second Grand Prix Circuit. In Lillerød, he faced Victor Ørding Kauffmann, with whom he has previously had problems.

Earlier this year, Kauffmann was in the final at the U19 Danish championships, and now he can write a GPC tournament victory on his CV.

None of the top seeded pairs were to be found in the women’s doubles final. The finalists Iben Bergstein/Mette Werge knocked out the first-seeded pair for GPC in the semi-finals, while the opponents, unseeded Emilia Nesic/Lærke Tolstrup Hvid, sent the second-seeded pair home early in the tournament.

In the women’s doubles final, however, there was not much doubt, as Bergstein/Werge won the match 21-12, 21-15.

In the men’s doubles, the advance favorites were not on the program in the final either, which was partly due to the fact that the day before Malthe Bølbjerg Nielsen/Søren Toft Hansen beat first-seeded Lasse Mølhede with partner Christopher Voldsgaard Holm.

On Sunday, the unseeded pair could once again emerge victorious from a difficult match, when second-seeded Joel Eipe/Tobias Holst-Christen were defeated in three sets with 25-23, 16-21, 21-17.
