Cuba offers warm farewell to the late judo coach Ronaldo Veitía

After the death of Ronaldo Veitía, one of the most important judo trainers in Cuba, INDER paid him well-deserved tribute in Havana.

Last Monday, December 5, the Cuban sports scene mourned the physical disappearance of judoka coach Ronaldo Veitía. Undoubtedly, his death has caused great commotion in the country; especially considering his relevance for the evolution of Cuban judo.

Therefore, in honor of his more than thirty years of professional career, INDER wanted to pay tribute to his memory by offering him a warm farewell. In this sense, together with his family, they agreed to celebrate Ronaldo Veitía’s funeral at the facilities of the Ciudad Deportiva de La Habana.

According to what was known in the Cuban media, after the death of the prominent coach, his relatives chose to cremate his mortal remains on Monday afternoon. Subsequently, his ashes were transferred to the aforementioned sports venue, for the celebration of an emotional funeral.

As a result, since Tuesday morning; relatives, friends and admirers of Ronaldo Veitía in Cuba came to say their last goodbye. Hundreds of people attended the ceremony; among them, several of the judokas who passed through his hands, and whom he led to sporting victories.

Likewise, representatives of all ages of sports in the country were present at the funeral; thus paying his respects to the late coach.

Also, during Ronaldo Veitía’s funeral, INDER recalled the admirable way in which he dedicated a good part of his life to judo in Cuba. Likewise, they thanked him for his delivery and dedication, manifested in the extraordinary work that led Cuba to obtain important international judo medals.

In addition, senior government officials expressed their condolences to the Veitía family, and sent floral arrangements to the funeral.

About the death of Ronaldo Veitía, an important judo coach in Cuba

As we mentioned, the death of Ronaldo Veitía caused great commotion among family, friends and all those who support sports in Cuba. This, above all, due to the great relevance of his work with which he managed to put the name of our country very high.

However, for several months now, Veitía’s health has deteriorated significantly, as a result of a condition.

During the past month of August, the judo coach was in the city of Valencia, Spain, making a visit in the company of his family. Apparently, during the trip, he presented certain discomforts that led to his visit to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a cerebrovascular accident (CVA).

For several weeks, he received treatments and therapies that helped him in his recovery; but he expressed his desire to return home. Therefore, in the month of October, Ronaldo Veitía returns to Cuba in the company of his son; settling in his home in Havana.

However, his health condition did not improve and, on the contrary, he presented new complications that took him back to the hospital. Consequently, he was admitted to the Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical Surgical Hospital where, despite the efforts of the doctors, he lost his life days later.

Cuba will forever remember Ronaldo Veitía, for preparing great female judokas, as Idalys Ortizwho brought four Olympic medals and eight World Cup medals.
