The DFB is in a state of emergency, now there is a threatening financial situation. The minus for 2021 is more than 30 million euros. The association has to dissolve a large fund in order to remain liquid – the early end of the World Cup exacerbates the situation.

It was an unusual question and answer game that representatives of the German Football Association (DFB) presented at a press conference in early November. They provided information about financial developments in their association, it was again about trouble with taxes and provisions worth millions, and when the presentation was over, the DFB media director asked the DFB treasurer on the open stage: “Is the DFB now threatened with bankruptcy ?” Treasurer Stephan Grunwald responded that no, that was not the case, that sufficient liquid funds were available. From his words, however, it was clear that he felt the situation was tense.
