Celebrations after Morocco-Spain: the police made arrests

After Morocco’s victory in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup, hundreds of Moroccans celebrated the victory of the Atlas Lions in downtown Brussels. At the start of the evening, the party passed off peacefully, but in the evening the police finally intervened.

From 7:00 p.m., the Boulevard du Midi was closed to traffic, both towards Porte d’Anderlecht and Porte de Hal. Rallies quickly formed in the Lemonnier, Dansaert, Etangs Noirs neighborhoods in Molenbeek and Pavillon in Schaerbeek, the police said. A human chain of supporters has long prevented confrontation between a few troublemakers and the police. In this cordon, “the elders” have repeatedly called the younger supporters to order, inviting them to “lead by example” and calm things down.
