Cacereño-Girona in the Copa del Rey: chronicle, goals and results

GIRONAThe Cup, a competition full of surprises, has presented a capital one with the elimination of a Girona full of starters but unable to be better than Cacereño (2-1). The locals, much more motivated than their faces showed when they saw the name of their rival on television, because they wanted an Atlético de Madrid, Sevilla or Real Sociedad to completely fill the stands, won thanks to a goal from Iván Fernández in the second half. In the first, they went ahead with a goal from David Grande, countered by Taty Castellanos’ momentary draw, which was of no use.

And the fact that Míchel’s team had the intention of going through the knockout stages, since they came out with an eleven that, with the exception of some tweaks, such as in the goal, could perfectly be of the game in any of the games in Primera division The image of the great majority has come out damaged, after the defeat. In fact, in the first round, the victory was already fair: Girona needed extra time to beat Quintanar del Rey. The Cup has not tried him, this year. Partly perhaps better, if that serves to make it not boring: the last time he ventured to get far being in the elite, he went down to Second.

In Cáceres, the Girona team did not know how to play, in an impassable field due to the rain that had even forced the locals to suspend their League game last weekend. This, however, cannot be an excuse: the difference in categories is too great to complain about. In addition, except for an even first half of the game, in which Girona scored David Grande’s initial goal well, and a small reaction at the start of the second half, where Stuani and Oriol Romeu enjoyed a couple of occasions that could well have meant the 1-2, the team has accumulated errors unbecoming of him. Even, in the final minutes, Cacereño could have extended their advantage, and portrayed Girona’s farewell in their return to activity. The night was a difficult nightmare to swallow.
