Boxing: “You’re next, little sausage”, Fury’s crazy provocation before his fight against Usyk

This is one of the little escapades of which Tyson Fury has the secret. Sweet words for the British boxer, holder of the WBC belt. After his demonstration against his compatriot Derek Chisora, the giant asked Oleksandr Usyk, present in the hall of the Tottenham Hot Spurs Stadium, to join him in the ring. The Ukrainian, WBA-IBF-WBO champion, was absolutely unfazed, and came face to face with his likely future opponent for the unification of all the heavyweight belts.

The beginning, we suspected a little, of a little verbal spar between the two men. We hear Tyson Fury referring to Anthony Joshua, whom Usyk beat last August by judges’ decision: “You may have beaten a bodybuilder, but I’m not a bodybuilder, I’m going to kick you out.” The Gipsy King also called the Ukrainian several times a “little p***”, or a “little rabbit”, before attacking his rival’s physique: “You ugly little 95 kg man, let’s go -y! You’re next, little sausage! I have already beaten a Ukrainian, Vladimir Klitschko. »

“We will see each other again,” Usyk promised him, straight in the eye, for what would be the first unification fight for an English heavyweight since Lennox Lewis. Because the fight against another Briton, Anthony Joshua, former WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion, could never be organized. It was Usyk who dethroned Joshua in September 2021, stripping him of his three belts. He beat him again last August, in Saudi Arabia, but wasn’t ready to face Fury this year.

A fight that should take place in Saudi Arabia

Before this episode, Tyson Fury had launched his evening perfectly by retaining his WBC belt against Derek Chisora, whom he had already dominated twice in his career. Favored 20 to 1, the Gipsy King seemed all in control, even leaving the impression that he was making the fight last against the 38-year-old boxer (1.87 m, 33 wins, 13 losses).

Fury was hoping to face Anthony Joshua instead, but the latter had turned down the fight. Next ultimate fight therefore for Tyson Fury against Usyk. “Everything is settled, confirms Alexandre Krassyuk, promoter of the Ukrainian. It will probably be in Saudi Arabia. If not, we have plenty of other options. It’s the biggest heavyweight championship in history and it won’t be hard to find a place for it. The challenge has been launched and could take place in Riyadh next March.
