Bordils activates the lever of nostalgia

L’Handball Bordils is, today, a reference club. The town may be very small, but the impact of this organization and those who are part of it is enormous. It is explained beyond the years a Silver Honor Division of his senior, now a rung below. The good results of the quarry also speak of it, teams recognized everywhere Catalonia and with a run also in the state championships. But to understand the present, it is important to embrace the past and in Bordils, many things have happened and some of them with huge consequences. Jordi Carreras, Josep “Telo” Batet i Jordi Toti Congost they are three proper names of these six decades of existence. His footprint still lives on and the club wanted to recognize his trajectory, with a very emotional act in a pavilion, the White-and-Greenwhich activated the nostalgia lever.

The eighties experienced a kind of turning point in favor of Bordils, which grew exponentially in popularity and expectations. Carreras, Congost and Batet, along with their entire work team, were the main culprits. Some daring ones for the time. People hungry for handball, eager to learn and grow, who moved heaven and earth to train and contribute, for the good of the club, all their knowledge. Books that came from here and there, clinics, learning at the dojo. Anything to improve, to change habits. They passed on all their knowledge, implanting it in the base teams and the results were not long in coming. The juveniles, children, cadets and shortly afterwards the youths, began to win regional championships, and then went on to climb the podium at Catalan level. Unthinkable milestones were reached for a town of, at the time, little more than a thousand inhabitants. In 1986, for example, when the cadet proclaimed himself champion of Catalonia, beating the Granollers in the semi-finals and beating Barça de David Smurf in the last step.

The club, knowing the history and grateful, had a gesture last Thursday with all three. He gathered them in the pavilion. To them and about sixty people, including ex-players and ex-members of the coaching staff. Many of them, accompanied by their relatives. An emotional moment, with many smiles, some tears. Carreras, Congost and Batet each received a Bordils Handball shirt. They showed them, proudly, in the middle of the track. Where the final of the tournament had just been played Helvetia in the cadet category, won by the home team. Where also the Catalan youth team (with four players trained in Blanc-i-Verd like the brothers Cikusa, Arnau Pou i Aleix Frigola) faced the Girona senior selection of Jordi Gonzalez i Esteve Ferrer. And right there where, a day later, the youth edition of the same Helvetia championship would be held.
