Biathlon World Cup | The relay of the Blues begins its season with a podium

Norway was expected. Norway won. The XXL quartet made up of Vetle Christiansen, Sturla Laegreid, Tarjei and Johannes Boe did not have too much trouble winning this Thursday during the first relay of the winter in Kontiolahti. They were by far the fastest on the track. And since they made fewer mistakes than the others behind the rifle, there was not much to hope for against the reigning Olympic champions.

The film of the gentlemen relay

With only 7 pickaxes, Norway won with a 44″ lead over Germany (8 pickaxes) and 1’06” over France (9), which unlocks the podium counter for French biathlon this season. .

Five pickaxes for Claude

The Blues were launched wonderfully by Eric Perrot. The youngest of the band, 21, did not deflate despite his discovery of the role of opener. Cautious but precise on the first shot, returning to the leading quartet at the end of the 2nd loop, the biathlete from Peisey Vallandry gave a demonstration of the standing shot, as perfect as it is fast, while all his opponents made mistakes, especially Sweden, already relegated to more than a minute following the two laps completed by Peppe Femling. Exiting 15 seconds late, Vetle Christiansen was able to make the connection in the final loop, but he was the only one. Norway and France shared the lead at the first handover.

But Germany was not far away. And after making his comeback, Johannes Kuehn took the lead on the lying shot, taking advantage of the faults of Sturla Laegreid (1 pick) and Fabien Claude (2). The Norwegian returned to the track, not the French, who drew once more than his two rivals when standing (3 faults against 2). Claude tried to come back in the last loop. But conversely, his delay doubled and he launched Emilien Jacquelin in 4th position, behind Slovenia, 30 “from Norway and Germany.

Jacquelin not far from coming back

The Isérois grabbed a few seconds in his first lap (+25 “), punctuated by a faultless lying down, like Tarjei Boe and Benedikt Doll. Ditto in the 2nd round (+17 “on the return to the stadium). Jacquelin missed a standing target, but so did Benedikt Doll and Tarjei Boe. And as the Frenchman shot very quickly, he only had 10″ left to fill. The gap even fell to 5″ a few hectometres further on. But Jacquelin then faltered in the second part of the loop, the highest. He handed over the baton to Quentin Fillon Maillet 23” behind Roman Rees and Johannes Boe.

Boe unfolds, QFM secures the podium

The outgoing winner of the big globe has never been able to return. His two pickaxes lying relegated him to 52″ behind the big Boe (1 pickaxe), who in the meantime had gotten rid of the German (+15″). The Norwegian, already impressive on skis during the individual opening on Tuesday, made a new demonstration on the track and this time did not fail in shooting, author of a 5/5 on his standing. He was able to enjoy the last lap before embracing his three teammates in the finish area.

Norway won its first victory of the winter, after the success of Sweden’s Ponsiluoma and Oeberg in the opening individual. Last year, she won five of the six men’s relays, including the Olympics. A raid that she seems quite capable of repeating.
