Defending champions Alba Berlin and FC Bayern Munich have once again qualified for the top four in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) cup, completing the semi-finals!
After the first BBL loss of the season for Alba against BG Göttingen, there was a quick reunion between the two teams. In the quarterfinals of the cup, however, the reigning champion won a sovereign 99:71 and thus made it clear for his part to reach the semifinals. But there were no big cheers, because the runner-up from Munich is now waiting in the next round. “Of course it’s not the easiest thing. But in the cup, everyone wants to win. You have to win both games,” said manager Marco Baldi.
The defending champion cannot enjoy reaching the semi-finals for long anyway. The program of the week is tight because the Berliners still have to play three games in five days. “It’s going to be a really, really tough week. That’s crazy, you really have to say that,” said Baldi. The league continues on Tuesday with the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig (7 p.m. / MagentaSport). This is followed by the Euroleague game against Fenerbahce on Thursday and then against Bayreuth on Saturday.
Bavaria and Oldenburg also continue
Vice-champion FC Bayern Munich and EWE Baskets Oldenburg had previously made it into the top four. Munich got a clear victory with 80:63 against medi Bayreuth. The EWE Baskets Oldenburg defeated the MLP Academics Heidelberg 85:83 after a strong race to catch up.
The MHP giants from Ludwigsburg had already entered the top four the day before. They prevailed with a clear 95:69 victory against the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim.
The top four will take place on 18./19. February 2023. The venue has not yet been determined at this time. The semi-finals will probably not take place in a neutral hall.
