ATP threatens to ban UK tournaments from world tour

British tournaments removed from the calendar in 2023?

Faced with Wimbledon’s desire to repeat if Ukraine were still occupied in 2023, the ATP decided to threaten the LTA with excluding all British tournaments from the calendar if the latter refused the participation of Russian and Belarusian players. A threat that looks like a strong message sent by the ATP to the international federations in order to keep a firm hand on the international calendar.

“The ATP shows no recognition of the exceptional circumstances created by the invasion of Ukraine”

Press release from the British Federation

In a press release, the LTA said “deeply disappointed. The ATP shows no recognition of the exceptional circumstances created by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, nor of the supportive reactions from the international sporting community, nor of the UK government’s response to this invasion. »

Et l’United Cup ?

Note that the ATP may need to clarify its position vis-à-vis the United Cup which will take place in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney, Australia, from December 29 to January 8. A competition by national teams from which are absent, for the moment, Russia and Belarus.
