Argentinians mocked their opponents after the win and face criticism. Otamendi defends the team

Argentina defeated the Netherlands in a tense quarter-final at the World Cup in Qatar and advanced to the semi-finals. But after the match, the South Americans showed an unfair gesture towards the opponent. Some players led by Otamendi mocked the Oranjes footballers. But the experienced Benfica defender justified everything and defends himself and his teammates.

The team led by Lionel Messi managed the duel against the Netherlands, winning on penalties. But shortly after, the South American players started celebrating in such a way that some fans were outraged.

When Lautaro Martínez converted the penalty kick to decide the victory, the footballers started to run around the pitch and rejoice. As would any team that triumphed and advanced after such a run.

But Otamendi and Paredes made a very unfair gesture towards the grieving Dutch. Because they showed mockery. Otamendi put both hands to his ears and Paredes imitated him. The other players were just wringing their hands and shouting happily. The star Messi was also in the group of sinners, but he celebrated the win in an ordinary way. And he did not lower himself to gestures towards the opponent.

Otamendi himself commented on the situation, which many fans began to criticize. The Benfica defender let it be known that the gesture was just a response to provocations from the opponent.

I celebrated it in the face of the opposition because there was a Dutch player who came up every time we took a penalty and said something to one of our players. The image was taken out of context,” stated on social networks.
