Africa: Judo – Madagascar returns to the continental roof

Years later, the Malagasy national flag rose to the highest step on the continental stage. Laura Rasoanaivo has once again brought continental gold back to Madagascar.

The curtains for the 2022 season fall today. This year has been more than busy for the Malagasy Judo Federation, both in terms of national competitions and participation in international tournaments. In Nairobi, at the African Junior Championships, Laura Rasoanaivo Razafy engaged in the under 70 kg won the gold medal.

The judoka from the Association Sportive Saint-Michel thwarts the predictions and wins against the “favorites” in her category. Lova Randrianasolo of ASM judo in the under 73 kg boys took the bronze medal. The Big Island is back again with the continental gold medal. At the African Senior Championships in Oran, Algeria, Lova, Sergio and Haingo were all placed 7th.

At the Madagascar International tournament organized in November at the Ankorondrano Gymnasium with the participation of the Reunionese, the Malagasy clan won eight gold medals. At the Open des Mascareignes in Reunion, the Malagasy judokas returned with three gold medals and a bronze medal.

This year was particularly devoted to the gradual improvement in the technical and sporting organization of events, but also to the organization of criteria competitions in view of the major international events of 2023, including the Games of the Islands of the Indian Ocean at home. , the African Games in Accra, Ghana and the Francophone Games in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

As judo is part of the disciplines in many games, the federation has already launched its own grouping following the national ranking from November 2 to 12 in the capital. They were 28 judokas to participate in this first grouping. According to the activity report of the national technical direction, there are few activities on the training, kata and development aspects. Activities limited by the lack of means at the level of the federations or the leagues but also by the constraints of the school calendars.
