AFF Cup 2022: President Jokowi Prays for the Indonesian National Team to Win Again Against Brunei

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wished the Indonesian national team another victory in the continued Group A match of the 2022 AFF Cup against Brunei Darussalam in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Monday, 26 December 2022.

This was conveyed by the President after witnessing the success of the Garuda Troops in defeating Cambodia with a score of 2-1 at the Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, Friday.

“Yes, thank God, our national team won 2-1, we should be grateful, but tomorrow we will go to Kuala Lumpur, to Malaysia to compete with Brunei. We hope to win again,” Jokowi told the media crew, as contained in the official statement from the Secretariat Press Bureau RI President.

Indonesia won thanks to the goals scored by Egy Maulana Vikri and Witan Sulaeman, while Cambodia had replied through Saret Kriya.

“Very good, actually the chances were more than 10 times earlier. He was alone twice (times), then how many times did he hit the goal? But yes, the ball was round,” said Jokowi.

Looking at the results against Cambodia, President Jokowi hopes that Indonesia can end the long wait to win the AFF Cup for the first time in history.

According to the Head of State, that is the hope of all elements of the Indonesian nation, not just football connoisseurs.

“All of us, the people, society, football lovers, all of us want to win,” said Jokowi.
