The director of the Tour, Christian Prudhomme, announces the departure of the gala round from Bilbao.
Those interested can already make their preferential reservation for when the registration period opens in mid-January
Bizkaia will host the ‘L’Etape Bilbao by Tour de France’ cycling tour on June 11, an appointment with the same route as the one set for the opening day of the gala round –185 kilometers, starting and finishing in the Biscayan capital– almost a month later, specifically on July 1. The objective is to involve the fans and the general public in the event. Those interested can now make a preferential reservation on the website www.letour.euskadi.eus for when the final registration period opens, scheduled for the middle of next month.
The arrival of the gala round is a great opportunity to show the enormous fans of cycling that exist in Euskadi and one of the best ways to do it is “cycling along the same roads that the idols of the world peloton will travel on the opening day of the ‘Grande Boucle’”, pointed out the organizers. The Basque fans have been waiting for decades for the return of the Tour after San Sebastián was the starting point in 1992. Until now, Bizkaia has not received the ‘Grande Boucle’. It will do so in 2023 and the cycle tour ‘L’Etape Bilbao by Tour de France’ will become a good opportunity to emulate the route that will be completed days later by Mikel Landa, Ion Izagirre, Pello Bilbao, Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogaçar, Wout van Aert or Julian Alaphillipe, among others.
The participants will also have an alternative route, with a shorter distance and demand, with the aim that the range of participants is as wide as possible and “everyone can live the dream of being the first-person protagonist of the Tour de France 2023 », they advanced. The jersey designed exclusively for this occasion will not be missing.
