‘Young footballers don’t care, everything is too easy for them’ (videos)

Cristiano Ronaldo has things to say and he has decided to do so publicly. In recent days, several excerpts from his explosive interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV have gone around the world. But it is only this Wednesday that the first part of this interview is broadcast on television. With new statements that should in no way soften the situation.

After scratching the owners of Manchester United, his coach Erik ten Hag or his former teammate Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo continued his momentum by criticizing the general functioning of the Mancunian club.

Selected pieces of this river interview, the continuation and end of which will be broadcast on Thursday evening.

His unpleasant surprise on returning to Manchester United: “When I signed I thought everything had changed because it had been 13 years… I spent nine years at Real Madrid and three years at Juventus. And when I arrived, I thought everything would be different. Technology, infrastructure, all that. But I was surprised, in a bad way, because I saw that everything was the same. What surprised me a lot was the club’s instability. (…) Nothing has changed. The pool, jacuzzi, gym, kitchen, chefs – who I appreciate, they are lovely people – stopped in time which surprised me a lot as I thought I was seeing different things . »

Sur Ralf Rangnick : “Was it a ridiculous decision to appoint him coach? Sure ! When Ole Gunnar Solskjær was fired, the club brought in a sporting director. If you’re not even a manager, how are you going to be the boss of Manchester United? I had never heard of him. No one I spoke to knew him. I had to call him ‘boss’ because that was his role, but deep down I never thought of him as the boss. »

On his potential transfer to Manchester City in the summer of 2021: “Honestly, it was close. They discussed it a lot and Guardiola said two weeks ago that they tried very hard to get me. But as you know, given my history with Manchester United, the heart, the feelings, what you have done before, of course made the difference – and also Sir Alex Ferguson. I talked with him. He told me it was impossible for you to sign for City. And I said ‘Ok boss’. So I made this decision in all conscience, because the heart spoke loudly at that time. »

On the attitude of young footballers: “I don’t think they disrespect experienced players, that’s not the word, but it’s a different generation. They don’t have the same mentality, they haven’t suffered. They miss that hunger. Everything is too easy for them. They do not care. I’m not just talking about a few at Manchester United, but all the teams in all the leagues in the world, the youngsters are not the same as my generation. But you can’t blame them, because it’s part of life and the next generation, new technologies distracting them. I’m not the kind of guy who likes to give advice because I prefer to be an example. Because I am an example. I’m there every morning and I do the same things. I’m probably the first in and the last out. I think the details speak for themselves… That’s why I say I like to lead by example. Some follow me, some don’t. Some don’t care. But in my opinion, they will not have long careers. Many people of my generation play until they are 36, 37, but for them it will not be the case. »

On the young people who can hope for a long career: “At Manchester United, I can probably mention Diogo Dalot. He is young (23), but very professional and I have no doubts about his longevity in football. He is young, intelligent and very professional. There is also Lisandro Martinez (24), Casemiro who is in his thirties… but I would say Dalot. »

On criticism of him: “I’m used to living like this, because at 37 I’ve learned that when you’re down and on top of the wave, you don’t realize and you don’t see the things that you’ve seen before, which is to see who’s on your side in the bad times and who criticizes you the most. It seems like the press wants to put me on the front page because they know they will sell more and the interest will be different. I feel like in the last four or five months, not just for me but also for my family and Georgina, the press around the world is criticizing me even more. Even the Portuguese press. Sometimes I don’t understand why. But I think jealousy has something to do with it. (…) I don’t like to read the press, because I know that 90% of the time it’s lies. They constantly attack my family and me. »
