TV excitement about Sandro Wagner (34)!
In the 1:1 of the German team against Spain the ZDF expert caused trouble for many viewers with a comment. On Twitter, users make serious accusations against the former Bundesliga professional (including Bayern, Hoffenheim, Hertha), and there is even talk of racism.
Shortly before Niclas Füllkrug (29) equalized, Wagner said in the 79th minute: “Fans are back too. I’ve also seen a few Germany fans cheering loudly. Earlier I thought the whole curve is Germany, full of Germany fans. Then I realized that these are Qatari bathrobes.”
He’s playing with “bathrobes”. WM expert refers to the “Thawb”, the traditional white robe that the Qataris wear and is widespread in the Arab world.
Wagner’s statement was immediately noticed by numerous viewers, and shortly afterwards there was a shitstorm on Twitter.
The station reacted late on Sunday evening, apologizing for the ex-national player’s statement (five international matches): “Unfortunately, Sandro Wagner’s statement about the Thawb happened during an emotional phase of the game. It’s not allowed. We’ll discuss that.”
Wagner himself has not yet commented on his statement.
