World Cup 2022: World Cup out! Cameroon coach Song suspends goalkeeper André Onana – FOOTBALL

Huge fuss in the Cameroonian national team before the second group game!

Cameroon coach Rigobert Song (46) has suspended regular goalkeeper André Onana (26) from the squad for disciplinary reasons – just a few hours before the second preliminary round game against Serbia!

This was first reported by the French news agency “AFP”. However, the agency did not provide any information about the exact reasons. Devis Epassy took the place in goal.

As the Spanish journalist Helena Condis Edo from “COPE” reports, the goalkeeper has not only been sorted out for the game against Serbia, but will also no longer be part of the Cameroonian selection for the rest of the World Cup!

Reason: Onana is said to have fought violently with Coach Song during training. The Italian journalist and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano also wrote on Twitter.

Song, who played for 1. FC Köln and Liverpool, among others, is said not to have been satisfied with the way the star goalkeeper played. Onana then stopped training and left the pitch without a word.

According to the journalists, attempts at calming down by Bayern star and Cameroon captain Eric Maxim Choupo-Mouting (33) and former superstar Samuel Eto’o (41, including ex-Barça) did not help either.

Cameroon’s national coach Rigobert Song after the game against Serbia (3:3): “The goalkeeping position is important. But you know: we are in the middle of an important tournament. And I know what I have to do: make sure the team is above everyone.”

And further: “André wanted to deviate from that. But he respected my decision. It is important that we all show team spirit, discipline and respect here.”

Ex-Cameroon national player Marcel Ndjeng (40) does not understand the suspension at “Magenta”. The Zoff reminds the ex-Bundesliga professional (including Hertha, Paderborn, Augsburg) of the 2014 World Cup, when the “untamable lions” fought publicly on the pitch.

Ndjeng: “Onana is a total professional, he was trained at Barça’s ‘La Masia’ and was also a regular keeper at Ajax Amsterdam for a long time. I hope it won’t be like at the 2014 World Cup, where the team broke up publicly on the pitch and everyone could watch.”

At that time, Benoît Assou-Ekotto suggested a headbutt against fellow player Benjamin Moukandjo in the 4-0 defeat by Croatia, and there was said to have been a lot of noise in the team after the game.

And Onana is no stranger to Fifa’s rulers either: The ex-keeper of Ajax (214 games from 2015 to 2022) was banned for a year for a doping offense in November 2021, but the sentence was reduced to nine months.

This allowed the Inter goalkeeper to play for his country again in time for the World Cup. However, he was unable to prevent the bitter 1-0 defeat by Switzerland in the first group game.
