AActivists have placed a poster with satirical statements against the World Cup in Qatar and the likeness of Uli Hoeneß on billboards in Germany. On it is a fictitious interview with the honorary president of the FC Bayern Munich to read. The caption below a photo of Hoeneß with a black bar over his eyes reads, for example: “Human rights experts who are on the drip of professional football agree: The Winter World Cup in Qatar will be great fun.”
Cologne newspapers had reported on the action. Accordingly, the posters could be seen in Cologne and Hamburg. The World Cup, which begins on Sunday, is controversial because of the human rights situation in host country Qatar. Uli Hoeneß had vehemently defended the award and the emirate on several occasions.
According to the Cologne police, the state security has initiated preliminary investigations. Among other things, it should be checked whether property damage has occurred. Criminal proceedings have not yet been initiated. The company concerned, Wall GmbH, will report the matter.
