Ene question Sebastian Vettel is asked again and again so shortly before his finale in Formula 1: “Are you coming back?” That seems a bit disrespectful. As if Vettel didn’t know after 15 years on the roundabout that the last race of the season this Sunday in Abu Dhabi (2 p.m. CET, in the FAZ live ticker for Formula 1 and on Sky) is enough for him.
On the other hand, the question, formulated so often on Thursday in the paddock by Formula 1 experts, reveals appreciation: Vettel, 35 years old, four-time world champion, is not too late. Not everyone succeeds in doing this for whom Formula 1 has given them everything directly and indirectly: feelings of happiness, self-affirmation, success, fame, wealth, freedom. During his intensive questioning on Thursday, Vettel does not know whether his descent will result in a U-turn. He leaves it open, difficult question. Another is easier to answer: what happened to him in Formula 1?
