Uruguay ‘forgot to be patient’ against South Korea, regrets Valverde

Federico Valverde (man of the match and midfielder from Uruguay, hung 0-0 by South Korea on Thursday at the Education City stadium in Doha for their entry into the running at the 2022 World Cup, in a post-match press conference): “I took advantage of it. I was quite nervous before the game, but it was a great experience. I finished well on the physical level. Even if we regret not having been able to grab the victory, we worked well for 90 minutes, we made a huge sacrifice, and I believe that if we continue like this, things will go well. In the first half, they moved the ball a lot, it was difficult to press them, to combine between midfielders and attackers. We couldn’t find the spaces, but it’s our fault, mine. The midfielders, we have to position ourselves higher. But as we always like to stay in contact with the ball, and as the Koreans pressed us well, they cut the passing lines, and we found ourselves very low. In the second half, it was better, we found spaces, combinations, crosses… It’s normal for a first game, we’re always looking for victory, but sometimes we want victory so badly that we forget to be patient in the last meters.»
