Matthew Spanish spoke in a long interview with Piero Guerrini on “Tuttosport” about his acclimatization to Trento, after the winning basket scored on the floor of Umana Reyer Venezia.
Eagle of Trent. “I get along very well, in general with the team and with the staff. We are growing a lot together, we are improving each other, we are on the right track. I have no doubt.”
Differences with the previous Cremona experience. “I have a good role here too, I have space. I manage to create advantages on the pitch for myself and for the team and that’s what I do best. I learn to understand the strengths of each to put everyone in rhythm. Targets? I really want to make the playoffs in Serie A. And I would also like to try the Eurocup. We didn’t go out. For the rest, in my opinion, you shouldn’t be in a hurry, things come with time, patience and work. The decision to come to Trento was the right one, it is a big, super serious and very professional company.”
The dream of the Minnesota Timberwolves. “They follow me and I’m happy. As for expectations, not two years ago, not even three years ago, not even last year. I started to understand something during last season. We talked a little more than me, we saw the observers. I did not know the draft environment, the NBA, it was a revelation. In the end, after a long and very hard summer, in short, it was beautiful.”
Improvements. “I have to and I can improve on many aspects: on my shot, both two and three. A rebound, in certain game choices. In certain situations, I can be more aggressive. And then the defence, which in my trial was not a priority. But when I got to A I understood that it is necessary, fundamental. And then, I mean, God gave me a pretty good physical appearance for the part.
Future in the NBA. “I do not know. When I do something, I think about the present. We have to live in the present. This year, I’m focusing on Trento. I think everything comes as a result.
