‘Tino’ Asprilla attacked Qatar and Gustavo Alfaro

Although the presentation of Ecuador was praised by many, to the point of arousing the envy of many in Colombia for being in the World Cup Qatar 2022 with Gustavo Alfaro, Faustino ‘el Tino’ Asprilla didn’t think the same. And in the middle of his analysis, hard and without filterscriticized the selected host and the coach of those from the neighboring country.

According to the former player of the Colombian team, a World Cup player in the United States in 1994 and France in 1998, the Qatari team is the weakest in the orbital event and should have scored goals for the Ecuadorians. But due to the supposed lack of ambition of the DT, who spent as a television and radio commentator in Colombiathey just ended up losing the opportunity in a very easy match.

In the middle of the ‘F 360’ program on ESPN Colombia, ‘Fausto’ also said that the Qatar player level it was too short and that they were not up to the task of a competition of this importance. That is why he did not evaluate Ecuador with regard to what it will play in the future.

‘El Tino’ Asprilla gave everything to the Qatar team and Gustavo Alfaro

Despite the fact that his teammates gave him arguments about what could have happened with Ecuador and why he slowed down in the second half, Asprilla was blunt:

“We can’t see more shots on goal because the Ecuadorian coach has the easiest game in the World Cup, to go out to attack, the center-forward is injured and puts in a brand midfielder. Only that man does that… He had no way to suffer, how he suffers if the opponent looked like children, too weak, it’s amateurs who were playing there… In the Copa América they had less pressure, there they had the pressure of going out to open a World Cup ”.

For the tulueño, it is not that the Qatari players have played badly, rather it is that they do not know how to play well. In addition, he said that in the participation they had in the 2019 Copa América, as guests, they simply defended themselves and Colombia did not thrash them because of Duván Zapata and his failures:

“(Qatar) He didn’t play horrible, it’s that they don’t know how to play, they just don’t know how to play… They play well with those of their same level, who do they play with in Asia? With those of their same level… And what did he do here? They put 10 players back… You speak because Colombia beat them 1-0, but I remember that game, they created 40 goal opportunities. That Duván was, rather, that is something else. They didn’t shoot on goal.”

In a more than controversial statement, Asprilla stated that the Qatari players do not have the level to play in Europe: “Everyone knows what Qatar plays, or is it that where they play, in the Premier (League) of England? These boys know Europe because they take them for a walk – Let’s go to Europe to buy clothes -”.

And just as he was hard on the homeowners, pointed to Gustavo Alfaro, saying that he did not imagine what he was going to propose against the Netherlands and Senegalhis next rivals:

“I had to lose and they had to ‘recontragola’. When a coach is leading 2-0 and a team hasn’t hit him… You realize, I’m not a coach, but if my team hasn’t suffered even a shot on goal, they didn’t get past the middle of the field and I’ll go to get the striker out… Put the other striker in, the one he put in last. Didn’t you bring a ‘peeled’ who plays in the second division? Why didn’t he put it in one? He had it to put it on and he continued with the team, if he was playing well… ”

Apart from asking for more goals from Ecuador from a weak rival, Faustino angrily recalled the 6-1 defeat of Alfaro’s team against Colombia, in the World Cup Qualifiers: “Why in the Qualifiers, when we gave that ‘papayazo’, did they keep attacking and they scored 6?… Why didn’t they stop? Why didn’t they settle for 2 goals and score another 4?… The temperature is For everyone, I played there, with the same temperature, and they didn’t beat me”.

Finally, when asked by the former Ecuadorian player Patricio Urrutia, about what he expected from his national team in Qatar 2022, ‘el Tino’ Asprilla was blunt and preferred to leave his “question mark”:

“I tell you, 100 more years will pass and we will never see a match as easy as today… Today I didn’t see anything, because they played with the easiest rival, what can I tell you if they played with the easiest World Cup bad guys? Until I see him against Senegal and against the Netherlands, what am I going to say?”

Taking into account that the Colombian National Team did not even qualify for the World Cup event, perhaps the former player is a way to vent and criticize what he would have considered an easy game for ‘the tricolor’. Although it also seems that there is some special feeling against Alfaro, perhaps because of something that happened during his time in our country or leading a compatriot. Only ‘Faust’ will know.
