The tennis player Carlos Alcaraz will start 2023 on the Australian tour with the 6,820 points that he had after the Masters 1,000 in Paris Bercy, which represents about 800 advantage over Rafael Nadalsecond in a list that closes the year with two Spaniards at the top for the first time in the history of the ATP.
The tear in the internal oblique musculature of the left abdominal lateral wall that he suffered in his match against the Danish Holger Rune in the semifinals of the tournament held in the French capital and from which he is recovering, prevented the player from El Palmar from fighting for the Masters Cup in Italy -he was going to make his debut there and also starting as seed-. That absence has also motivated his rivals for the top of world tennis to cut points.
Nadal, who has scratched 200, is second and behind is the Norwegian Casper Ruudfinalist in Turin, and who now has 5,820 points with the 800 he obtained in the last ATP tournament in 2022. The fourth position is for the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, with 5,550 points -in transalpine lands he added 200 to his account- Y the fifth for the Serbian Novak Djokovicchampion in Turin with the 7-5 and 6-3 that he endorsed Ruud and who now appears with 4,820 including the 1,500 he obtained in that tournament in which he won his five games.
In positions from sixth to tenth, the Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime closed the year, with 4,195; the Russians Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev, with 4,065 and 3,930; the American Taylor Fritz, with 3,365; and the Pole Hubert Hurkacz, with 2,905. Auger Aliassime managed 200 in Turin and both Rublev and Fritz 400, while Medvedev did not add after losing all three of their championship games.
As for the race of the year, Alcaraz has been the best since January with most of his points achieved in the five tournaments he won -the United States Open, the Masters 1,000 in Miami and Madrid and the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro and Barcelona-.
