FIFA threatened the federations with “unlimited sanctions” if they continued to use the multi-coloured armband of the ‘OneLove’ initiative which aimed to highlight the injustices, especially those related to the LGBT movement, that are experienced in Qatar. The threats from FIFA went beyond the economic field and crossed over to the sports field, with the possibility that players with the armband would be cautioned with yellow cards.
