The quarry sweeps with four golds out of five possible in the Nacional sub-17

The Spanish Under-17 badminton Championship this weekend established the Pitiusa academy as the best in Spain. Without a doubt. The 10 players displaced to Villanueva de la Vera (Extremadura) together with the coaches Vicent Martínez and Silvia Riera completed a new feat that no community has accomplished and last but not least, for the second consecutive year.

The Ibizans, in a show of enormous superiority, won four gold medals out of the five that were at stake in the Spanish Youth Championship.

The team returned to Ibiza with the gold medals for Ramón Rovira and Macarena Izquierdo in the individual tournament, another for Macarena together with Carmen Jiménez in the women’s doubles, and a fourth national title won by the brothers Joan and Marc Guasch in the doubles male.

But that was not the case, because in this last final with an Ibizan accent, runners-up Ramón Rovira and Nacho Francés finished. Carmen Jiménez and Joan Guasch also won silver in the mixed doubles. Finally, Macarena Izquierdo took bronze in the mixed tournament along with a partner from another territory.

The coach Vicent Martínez highlighted the great work of the island academy: «They have once again won four gold medals after those obtained in the under-13s and under-15s. This generation is giving us a lot of joy, the result of the involvement of the players and their families.”
