The Porte de la Chapelle Arena for sports and concerts

Théo Curin, vice-world champion in para-swimming, takes us behind the scenes of the preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games every week. This week, visit the future Arena, located at Porte de la Chapelle, in the north from Paris.

This facility will accommodate 8,000 spectators for sporting events, and subsequently, 9,000 seats in concert or show configuration. Théo meets Pénéloppe Hureau, deputy director of programs for Solideo, the company that delivers Olympic works: “During the games, the hall will host badminton, artistic gymnastics, para-badminton and para-weightlifting events.”

In front of the Arena, Théo Curin interviews Christophe Roza, in charge of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the city of Paris. (FABRICE RIGOBERT / RADIO FRANCE)

The building includes a roof that is both acoustic and vegetated over 6,500 m2, it will be self-sufficient in energy and will even be able to redistribute it in the neighborhood. Christophe Roza, in charge of the Olympic and Paralympic Games at the City of Paris, expects a lot from this equipment:

« It will be a new emblematic place for high-level sport, with Paris Basket Ball as a resident club, but also a place for events with shows, fairs or concerts ». Universal accessibility will be maximum, with a « sensory room », and allowing an opening towards the door of the Chapel. Two associated gymnasiums, also newly built, will be made available to the district.
