The Maroon Don’t Just Rely on Host Status

Qatar doesn’t just rely on host status to be able to compete at the 2022 World Cup. They have a solid team as Asian champions. Below is Qatar’s profile.

Qatar has qualified for the 2022 World Cup without having to go through the qualifying rounds because it is the host. Appearing in public alone clearly provides additional enthusiasm for The Maroon. Not to mention, other non-technical factors such as weather and climate which could be an advantage for Qatar.

However, Qatar doesn’t just rely on host status to be able to speak at the 2022 World Cup. They have a solid team that has proven capable of winning the 2019 Asian Cup.

The Qatar squad has played together for a long time with most of the graduates from Aspire Academy. All Qatari players at the 2022 World Cup will play in the local league. 13 of them came from last season’s Qatari League champions Al Sadd.

Felix Sanchez’s troops have also not changed much from when they became Asian champions. Team cohesiveness is Qatar’s main weapon in facing competition in Group A.

Felix Sanchez became a coach figure who was able to bring Qatar to win Asia for the first time. He began his coaching career at Barcelona’s youth team before becoming a coach at Aspire Academy.

From Aspire Academy, he then coached Qatar’s age group team from U-19 to U-23 before being appointed coach of the senior team at Qatar in 2017. Sanchez trained many Qatari players since he was a junior so he was able to form a solid team as it is today.

Almoez Ali has become Qatar’s goal machine in recent years. This 26-year-old player was able to score 42 goals in 85 appearances for Qatar.

He became an important figure for Qatar’s success in winning the 2019 Asian Cup title. He won the title of top scorer and best player in the event. This Al Duhail striker will be the foundation of Qatar in the 2022 World Cup.
