The Genovés National Cadet Women’s Basketball Tournament starts today with the match between Valencia and Joventut de Badalona

The tournament opens this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. with the game between Valencia Básket and Joventut de Badalona. The opening day will also feature the duel between the host team, CB Genovés, and Basketball Girona Uni Laia Palau, which will be measured from 7:15 p.m. Today, Friday, will close with the official presentation of the Torneig at the Museu de la Pilota, at 9:30 p.m.

The Saturday a marathon day is presented, with four meetingsTwo in the morning and two in the afternoon. At 10 am CB Genovés will play against Valencia; and at 12 Joventut against Girona. In the afternoon, at 5:15 p.m. CB Genovés will face Joventut and at 7:00 p.m. Valencia will play against Girona. Sunday is reserved for the finals, with the match that will decide the third and fourth place (10 am) and the grand final, at 12 pm. All the matches are played in the municipal pavilion of the Paco Cabanes El Genovés sports center.

From CB Genovés they point out that the women’s tournament “is presented very high, especially if we take into account everything that has been experienced during these years of pandemic in the CB Genovés family and having suspended a first attempt at a women’s tournament and another to transfer it to another town.” They affirm that this tournament “is a opportunity offered by basketball to achieve a fairer society”. The club points out that the message displayed “is an important message with a very powerful educational reading. Sport is a tool to educate and it is also fun”.

Laia Soler, one of the players who has participated in the tournament in previous editions, comments that “basketball is a powerful tool for transforming society and at CB Genovés we are aware of the relevant role we also play in the fight for gender equality. With sport we can be a reference to remove attitudes and stereotypes that go against what CB Genovés claims to be”.

Thus, the Genovés begins a weekend of sports, a weekend “that will speak in feminine and, above all, a weekend to enjoy a great basketball party. Sport has no gender”, they conclude.
