The traditional swimming Christmas Cup changes its usual route this year. Instead of doing it between the ramp of La Barquera and that of the old rula, the test will be held between the Liquerique point and the rear ramp of the old rula. The distance is more or less the same, 220 meters. The Cup was presented yesterday at the City Hall in an act in which several winners of the same were present, from Janel Cuesta, who did it in 1957, to those of last year. The reason for the change is to seek a greater depth of water and that the race can be held in the morning. It will start at 1:30 p.m.

This year will commemorate the 90th anniversary of the first time that seven athletes crossed what is now the Marina on Christmas Day. At that time the challenge did not continue and many years passed before swimming was resumed. After a second break, the Ciudad de Gijón Swimming Club recovered it in 1992 and since then it has been held without interruptions.

Registration will open on December 1 at the price of 3 euros and with a maximum of 180 participants and five categories in contention.
