The blacksmith pulled down the blinds, Sparta saves autumn

The postponement of the match with Slovácko and the unplanned two-week break probably saved Letenská. After the derby debacle at Slavia, he seemed to be praying for a futile autumn to end quickly. The opposite is true. “We have some wave now. We play pretty well up and down. It’s a shame that autumn is ending, but now we’re concentrating on Baník,” Tomáš Wiesner told the club’s television.

The Danish coach managed to suppress his coaching ego. Before the trip to Pilsen, he fundamentally retreated from his philosophy, changed his tactics and switched to a formation with three stoppers. “A difficult decision, but I felt we had to make a change after the derby,” explains Priske.

It paid off. Sparta first defeated Viktoria, while winning in Pilsen for the first time in 11 years. In the overtime, they defeated the unpopular Slovácko, with whom they lost three out of four competitive matches last season. At the end of the series, they also defeated the weakened South Bohemia, although with a lead of only one goal, they left them in hope until the very end.

“The most important of all are the 3 points, but it is true that we could have made the match calmer with the advantage of one more player. We didn’t have as much control over the game as we would have liked. On the other hand, it was the third win in seven days, and a lot of players played a lot of minutes in them,” says Priske after the annual duel, in which Sparta commemorated the 129th anniversary of its founding in thick fog and white retro jerseys.

“Third win, again with zero. It is important for Kovy (goalkeeper Kovář), for the whole defense and the whole team. I hope we will continue to do so,” Wiesner wishes.

Sparta in recent days is also characterized by the national team forward Jan Kuchta. The less goals he scores lately, the more work he does for the team.

“Kuchta is happy that we won, but he is also angry with himself. He didn’t score a goal, but I think he deserved it for his performance. He had more defensive tasks, in the second half, for example, he personally guarded Hora in České Budějovice. After the foul, he was also given a red card and a penalty could be whistled,” Priske points out.

“He didn’t score a goal, but that’s just football. When you work the way Honza works, I believe that eventually the well-deserved award will come,” adds the Danish coach.
