Iga Swiatek’s winning streak has broken: The world number one was surprisingly defeated by Aryna Sabalenka.

At the WTA Finals in Texas Fort Worth The Polish Swiatek lost to the Belarusian Sabalenka 2: 6, 6: 2, 1: 6 and missed the final of the final tournament for the best tennis players of this year.

There, Sabalenka meets Caroline Garcia from France, who previously beat Greek Maria Sakkari 6-3, 6-2.

Surprising drop in performance

In the group games, Swiatek had dominated like no other player had done in 15 years. The 21-year-old had only given up 13 games in her three group games, the fewest since the Belgian Justine Henin in 2007 (11), as the WTA announced before the semifinals.

For Swiatek it was also the first defeat after 15 wins in a row against a player from the top ten.
