VALENCIA. The Swiss Ylena In-Albon and the Spanish Marina Bassols won this Saturday the ticket for the final of the ITF Open Ciudad de Valencia tournament this Sunday after eliminating the American Alycia Parks (5-7, 6-7(4)) and the German Tamara Korpatsch (3-6, 1-6), respectively, at the Valencia Tennis Club.
In the first semifinal, In-Albon, who was indisposed in the hours before the start of the match, got off to a strong start, breaking her rival’s serve with an advantage that became double by giving her continuity, also winning her subsequent service.
Although Parks managed to equalize the set up to two times, the Swiss managed to win the first set with two consecutive services and despite the fact that Parks seemed to enter better in the second set, taking a 3-1 advantage over her rival, In-Albon finally forced the tiebreaker and managed to take the game.
The second semifinal began with an exchange of games between the two opponents until reaching the seventh of them, where Bassols broke her rival’s serve, maintaining an advantage that the Barcelonan maintained until certifying the first set in her favor.
In the second set, Bassols reached a four-game lead and, despite the German discounting, two straight games against the only Spanish representative left in the competition sealed the clash for her side.
The director of the Women’s Ciudad de Valencia Open, Ana Salas, said that “the final will be very tactical” and valued the presence of a Spaniard in this final match.
