Sparta – Č. Budějovice 1:0, Sparta celebrated its birthday with a narrow victory

The South Bohemians lost the third of their last four league matches and dropped to 13th place. Under temporary coaches Jiří Lerch and Jiří Kladrubský, who played for Letenské, they did not follow up on the 3:2 victory against Brno from the previous round.

Sparta played in white jerseys with the tricolor, which commemorated the 129th anniversary of its founding. This jersey was worn by the people of Prague at the turn of the 70s and 80s of the last century.

The only hit of the evening came less than a quarter of an hour into the game. Minčev passed to the onrushing Haraslín and he gave goalkeeper Šípoš no chance with a hard shot under the crossbar. The Slovak representative followed up on the goal from Wednesday’s winning finish against Slovácko (4:0).

The match played in thick fog did not offer much in the opening act. At the end of the first half, home Wiesner headed wide, and on the opposite side, Hellebrand’s pinpoint shot ended up in the side netting.

After the break, the picture of the game did not change much. In the 68th minute, Čavoš illegally stopped the escaping Kuchta and referee Starý, after consulting with the video referee, sent off the visiting midfielder in his 100th league match. However, the intervention did not take place in the penalty area, but just in front of it. Substitute Karabek’s attempt from the ensuing free kick was deflected by Šípoš.

The attention of the Spartan goalkeeper Kovář was checked from an angle by the unsuccessful substitute Potočný. Kuchta missed an opportunity to increase Prague’s advantage in the penalty area.

Sparta did not lose at home in the league for the eighth time in a row and won there for the fourth time in a row. They did not lose to South Bohemia in the top competition for the fifth time in a row and at Letná in the 20th of the last 21 duels.

Both teams will finish the autumn part of the year next Saturday with the round of 16 matches of the domestic cup. Sparta will present itself in Ostrava, Dynamo will welcome Hradec Králové.
