The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has granted this Sunday an invitation to Spain and Italy to play the final phase of the Davis Cup 2023, so they will avoid having to play the qualifying playoff.

In this way, the Spanish team ensures its presence in the next group stage of the tournament, which will take place from September 12 to 17, 2023, between the cities of Bologna (Italy), Glasgow (Scotland), Hamburg (Germany) and Valencia (Spain).

In total, 24 teams will play the final phase of the tournament, of which four have already qualified; Spain and Italy as guests, and Australia and Canada as finalists this year. The invitations have been promoted by the character of hosts of Spain and Italy, with Valencia and Bologna, while Great Britain and Germany have been left out of the race, who will have to earn their place in the qualifiers from February 4 to 5. Two members of the ITF and another two from Kosmos, the company run by Gerard Piqué that injects money into the tournament, were in charge of choosing the invited nations.

Croatia, France, the United States, Germany, Great Britain, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Belgium, Sweden, the Netherlands, Argentina and the Czech Republic will start as seeded players in the draw that takes place this Sunday for the playoffs of the final phase of the tournament . These teams will face the unseeded, made up of Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chile, Colombia, Finland, Hungary, South Korea, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Switzerland and Uzbekistan.

As has happened this year, the group stage of the Davis Cup will be played between four venues, mentioned above, while the quarterfinals, semifinals and the grand final will be played at the Martín Carpena Pavilion in Malaga.
