Spain – a letter to the national team

My dear Spain team, my La Roja,

I write you this letter to wish you good luck in world Cup in Qatar, which is starting.

Of course, I won’t leave you alone in these lands of the Middle East because, as you well know, I will be present at each of your matches in Qatar. Because with you I always know when my vacation starts, but never when it ends. Of course, I would love to spend it in your company – in Spain, it’s 30 days -, as happened in that African summer with wintry temperatures in 2010, which was undoubtedly the best vacation of my 48 years of life.

It seems like yesterday that game against the Greek national team at the Boavista stadium in Euro 2004. There I fell head over heels in love with you, and that’s why I’ve always been by your side since then, in every game, whether in Eurocopas or in World Cups, without caring if I had to travel thousands of kilometers or give up jobs, since you, THE RED, comes first. Although not everything was happy by your side – the disappointments in Germany, France, Russia and especially in Brazil were too strong -, all this only made my passion for you grow.

Thanks to you, not only have I been to countries as different as South Africa, Albania, Macedonia, Malta or Brazil, visiting authentic temples of football such as Maracanã, Wembley, Saint Denis or San Siro, but I have also met many of my best friends, who love you as much as I do. For you, we created the group THE GREAT ROJA FANS (MRF), your family that just celebrated the 10th anniversary of unconditional love for your colors and that will be rooting for you in every World Cup match.

At this moment, I have a feeling similar to the one I had when I landed in Durban to see the beginning of their African adventure against Switzerland, because, despite a very bad start, I was convinced that we would end up winning the World Cup. I have complete confidence in our leader Luis Enrique, who knows how to transmit to each of the players the values and strength necessary to ensure that this Christmas we have a second star shining on the jersey of THE RED.

For all that, LET’S GO SPAIN, LET’S GO FOR THE WORLD CUP!!!!!

Your most faithful follower.

Gerardo Bernardo Diaz, better known as GERRY.
