Serbia announces 2022 World Cup squad, dominated by Serie A players

Serbia has announced the squad that will be brought to the 2022 World Cup. Of the 26 names called, 11 of them play in the Italian League.

Coming as winners of Group A in the UEFA zone qualifiers, Dragan Stojkovic’s squad are determined to improve on their record four years ago, when they stopped at the group stage. Therefore, the selected squad was not kidding.

Names such as Dusan Vlahovic, Aleksandar Mitrovic, to Luka Jovic will be mainstays on the front lines. Dusan Tadic as the oldest player and has the most caps (90 times) in the squad is believed to be captain.

One thing that is quite interesting is the number of Serie A players who occupy the Serbian national team. Not a foreign thing, because the two countries are relatively close and Italy is also still one of the top destinations for footballers.

There are at least 11 players who play in the land of pizza. Besides Vlahovic and Jovic, there are Nikola Milenkovic, Sasa Lukic, Filip Kostic, Ivan Ilic, Darko Lazovic, Filip Duricic, Nemanja Radonji, and the Milinkovic-Savic brothers.

Serbia are joined with Brazil, Switzerland and Cameroon in Group G. They will meet Team Samba in the inaugural match on 24 November.

Midfielders: Nemanja Gudelj (Sevilla), Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio), Sasa Lukic (Torino), Marko Grujic (Porto), Filip Kostic (Juventus), Uros Racic (Braga), Nemanja Maksimovic (Getafe), Ivan Ilic (Hellas Verona), Andrija Zivkovic (PAOK), Darko Lazovic (Hellas Verona).
