Only five European champions remain in the 16-player squad for the next qualifying matches for the 2023 World Cup

The national basketball coach, Sergio Scariolo, has made public the list of 16 players called up for the third and fourth rounds of the second qualifying phase for the 2023 World Cup. The Spanish team will face Italy on November 11 at the transalpine country and three days later will host the Netherlands at the Palacio de los Deportes Carolina Marín in Huelva.

These will be the team’s first two games after winning the gold medal at the Eurobasket. Only five players appear on the new list -Alberto Díaz, Joel Parra, Sebas Saiz, Darío Brizuela and Jaime Fernández- who achieved glory in Germany this past summer, which means that the doors of this renewed Spain are still wide open. The main novelties are Pep Busquets and Eric Vila, who will debut with the absolute.

Spain, leader of the group with five wins and one loss, will seek to certify its presence in the 2023 World Cup in this window. In the last games they won convincingly against Iceland and the Netherlands.
