The Canton of Santa Cruz, in the Province of Guanacaste, will host the II Edition of the Esquipulas Judo Cup, one of the most important annual tournaments of this sport in our country that will host more than 400 athletes from various categories. .

The activity will take place on July 15 and 16, 2023 and from now on the members of the Costa Rican Judo Federation and the Costa Rican Olympic Committee are preparing to make it a success.

“One of the most important things within the Olympic movement is the development of Olympic values, which are also universal values such as: solidarity, camaraderie and respect, all those teachings from our ancestors, it is very important that through the sport, those values are spread even more”, mentioned the president of the National Olympic Committee Alexander Zamora.

Likewise, part of the objectives of the National Olympic Committee is to provide spaces for rural communities so that they can develop sports activities where visitors can learn more about the culture, customs and traditions of these areas of the country.

“It is very important that many sports disciplines are carried out at the regional level of the periphery provinces, obviously there are sports that are easier due to their dynamics in themselves, for example, surfing that can only be developed at the coastal level, but we do not have to abandon other sports that are practiced at a rural level”, said the president of the Committee.

The official event is being accompanied by the Sabanero de Santa Cruz Judo Academy and its Sensei Ronnie Gómez Villafuerte, who from the first edition polished themselves as hosts and that is why the National Olympic Committee trusted them to carry out this massive congregation again of athletes in the Guanacaste Canton.

For Doodley López Uribe, president of the Costa Rican Judo Federation and General Secretary of the National Olympic Committee, this will be the star event of Judo in 2023.

“We are very excited to return to an official event in the canton of Santa Cruz, the first one was a resounding success, the award ceremony was luxurious because the athletes received native handicrafts from the area, and we hope they surprise us as they always do, with its gastronomy, its crafts and its culture, we know of the great work that Professor Ronnie does with his academy and that his athletes are seasoned as are the people of Guanacaste, and the emotion is resounding because it will be next year’s luxury event,” he said. Lopez.
