Ross Brawn retires and steps down as sporting director

Formula 1 sporting director since 2017, Englishman Ross Brawn has announced his retirement.

Englishman Ross Brawn, a figure in the world of F1, announced on Monday that he was retiring and leaving his position as sporting director of Formula 1, which he had held since 2017.

First technical director of Michael Schumacher at Benetton (from 1992 to 1996) then at Ferrari (from 1997 to 2006), Brawn, an engineer by training, then became the successful owner of the Brawn Grand Prix team by buying the BAR-Honda team, titled during its only season of existence, in 2009, thanks to its compatriot Jenson Button.

Brawn immediately sold Brawn GP to Mercedes to manage the German brand’s return to F1, then quietly walked away in 2013, a year before Lewis Hamilton’s first world title at the wheel of a Silver Arrow.
