Rosinc’s Joan Jorquera wins bronze at the Taekwondo World Cup

Rosinc Joan Jorquera conquered on Friday the bronze medal in 63 kilos and adds the fifth metal for Spain to the Taekwondo World Championships which take place in Guadalajara (Mexico). The one from Roses thus achieves the his third international medal with 22 years

Jorquera showed great form with two-round wins over Indonesia’s Muhammad Raihan, Chile’s Cristan Olivero and Philippines’ Jospeh Chua to secure his place in the semi-final, which he lost 1-2 to the Uzbek Nizay Pulatov.

With a punch and a kick, Roses took a 3-0 lead in the first round against Pulatov; he made a good response hit and with a headbutt he escaped to the scoreboard to win 9-6 in the first set.

The Uzbek was better in the second round, in which he came out ahead with a punch, a hook, a point for a ‘gam jeaon’ in Jorquera and another punch to win 5-0 and cause the decision of 3 assaults.

They started 2-2, but Pulatov proposed the fight, got a good streak of hits and with nine consecutive points he ensure passage to the final per 13-2.

An injury put his participation in doubt

Joan Jorquera confessed that she won the bronze medal against all expectations after one injury which called into question his participation in the World Cups.

“We doubted it especially at the beginning of the injury, the doctors told me that it would be difficult to reach even if it was 50%. They didn’t assure me of anything and I was quite worried, but we managed to get there,” he told Efe.

In a fight in the Grand Prix of Manchester, Jorquera received a blow that caused him a muscle injury in the right leg which kept him for two weeks in recovery and with a few days to prepare for his participation in Guadalajara.

The Alt-Empordano claimed that he doubted whether he would maintain his physical strength during the qualifiers, a pressure he knew how to take until the final rounds.

“It was complicated mentally, the pressure of knowing whether or not I would arrive in perfect condition, but I arrived well,” he expressed.
