This Thursday morning (17/11), starting at 8:30 am, the Municipal Elementary School Jerônimo Timóteo da Fonseca will hold the 3rd Flag Football Tournament. The competition will be promoted on the field of the Association and Cultural Center of Morada do Vale (Acecovale), through a partnership with the Gravataí Spartans team, which will help with materials and support during the games.

Flag football is a modality derived from American football, but which does not require physical contact to prevent the opponent from advancing. To do this, just remove one of the ribbons that athletes wear around their waists. In this sport, it is not necessary to use the protective equipment typical of an American football match.

The educational institution has been working the flag with ninth grade students since 2016, on the initiative of Physical Education teacher Daniel Borba Roy. Since the beginning of the project, the receptiveness of the classes has been excellent, so much so that seventh and eighth grade students report their willingness to learn the modality. “People realized that it was very easy to play. It needs simple skills to learn”, comments the educator.

The school held championships in 2018 and 2019. This edition is the first after the pandemic. According to the professor, this Thursday’s activity will mobilize around 70 students. The teams that are in first place, in the male and female categories, will receive medals. There will also be honorable mentions for athletes who stand out in defense and attack.

Acecovale is located at Rua Aurélio Porto, 92. The event is open to the public.
