Olot reacts too late and also loses Alzira

Another blow and lost opportunity for Olot to get out of relegation. The arrival of Jonathan Risueño on the Garrotcina bench has not had the expected repulsive effect. The volcanic team added the second consecutive defeat in the league, the fourth since the Valencian coach took charge of the squad, by losing 2 to 1 at the Alzira field. The defeat keeps Olot penultimate in relegation positions and with the possibility of being last today if Ebro wins their game.

The visit to Luis Suñer i Picó was a key match in the fight for salvation. Alzira, with three more points than Olotin, was in a “play-out” position. Not winning the match meant for Olot a weight on an increasingly heavy backpack.

It was the local team that warned more clearly to take the lead with a shot from Pitu on the post. It was the prelude to the goal. A minute later, Álvaro Gómez beat Arnau Fàbrega to make it one-nil to go into halftime.

Risueño was looking for solutions, but ran into Alzira’s second goal. Serra made the second in the sixth minute of the restart. With a two-goal deficit, Olot made an offensive change to look for an equaliser, with Coris coming on for Serrano. Immediate effect, as Coris and Bah combined and Forgas shortened distances in the 54th minute. In a box or belt game, the visitors caressed the tie again. Adrián blocked a very clear opportunity for Forgas in the 77th and was also providential to stop a shot from Callís shortly after. The team’s reaction was evident and they surely deserved the draw. The revival, however, was as clear as it was late, since Risueño’s men lacked time to get the final equaliser.
