Not at the World Cup and now Italy loses to Austria for the first time since 1960 | Foreign football

In the absence of a World Cup ticket, the Italian national team is busy with exhibition matches. But that also did not provide a confidence boost as the Squadra Azzura lost 2-0 to Austria. David Alaba excelled with a wonderful bang. It had been since 1960 that Austria could win again against the Italian.

Roberto Mancini’s Italians are not having their best year. In the play-offs towards the World Cup, they were knocked out by North Macedonia and now they also close 2022 with another defeat.

Against Austria, Donnarumma had to turn around early on. Schlager was able to open the score after just six minutes after a pass from Arnautovic. And the PSG goalkeeper had to give in again before the break. He couldn’t do anything against a steely free kick from Alaba.

The Italians never actually claimed a connection goal and thus lost an international match against Austria for the first time since 1960. The two countries played against each other 14 times in all those years.

Belgium has been warned, Austria is in the European Championship qualifying group of the Red Devils.
