No more room for Mick Schumacher in F1

The German Nico Hülkenberg takes over the place of his compatriot Mick Schumacher at Formula 1 team Haas. The American racing stable announced this on Thursday.

The 23-year-old Schumacher came to Haas as Formula 2 champion last year, but failed to convince. After a disappointing first season, in which he did not collect a single World Cup point, the son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher could barely score again this year. Only in Austria (sixth) and Great Britain (eighth) did he finish in the points. Schumacher’s teammate Kevin Magnussen can present much better statistics this season with six top 10 places. Last weekend in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Dane took pole for the sprint race, while Schumacher finished twentieth and last in qualifying.

With 35-year-old Hülkenberg, Haas opts for an experienced replacement for Schumacher. The German already drove 181 Grand Prix. He is now a test driver for Aston Martin. There he replaced compatriot Sebastian Vettel in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia at the beginning of this season, because he was out due to corona.

Hülkenberg will start racing for Haas next week. He will then take part in the test races that take place after the last GP of the season, next weekend in Abu Dhabi.

With the appointment of Hülkenberg, all duos for 2023 in Formula 1 are now known. At Williams, the American Logan Sargeant has yet to get his super license.
